Matt is responsible for leading Waller Capital’s communications technologies practice, based in San Francisco. He has over twelve years of investment banking experience working primarily with clients who provide systems, software and components for applications in communications, enterprise IT and consumer electronics. Matt joins Waller from BofA / Merrill Lynch where he led coverage of communications technologies on the West Coast. Prior to that he was with Citigroup / Salomon Smith Barney where he helped build the technology group.
Matt has worked with companies at all stages of development. Large-cap clients have included 3M, Agilent, Cisco, HP and Motorola. During his career Matt has advised on numerous M&A assignments totaling over $10 billion and completed numerous private equity placements ranging in size from $15 to $300 million.
Recent M&A transactions include Brocade’s $2.6bn acquisition of networking vendor Foundry Networks; the sale of telecom components supplier Avanex to Bookham; Motorola’s acquisition of Netopia; CommScope’s $2.5bn acquisition of Andrew Corp.; Barloworld’s sale of Melles Griot to CVI Laser; HP’s acquisition of Snapfish; the sale of the VoIP business for UP Technology (a Beijing-based start-up backed by Doll Capital); and five PIPE offerings for Avanex Corporation.
